(Over-the-Rhine)-- Construction for street car development has closed the intersection of 12th Street and Vine Street this week.

The area was shut down Monday morning at 9 a.m., and will stay closed until Friday, June 20, at 4 p.m.

Access to the business and residences will still be open, and there will be detours for southbound and northbound traffic.

Westbound 12th Street between Race Street and Elm Street, and between Vine Street and Walnut Street will also be closed for streetcar development weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The work involves building groves, or flangeway, into the road to help guide the streetcars on the rail. They are made by letting the concrete harden around a PCV pipe next to the rail, and then removing the pipe creating the grove.

Normally construction of major streets are saved for weekends, but the project manager said they didn't want to disturbed the nightlife in the OTR Gateway Corridor.
