(Hamilton, OH) -- A 44 year old Hamilton Police Officer is recovering, and an 18 year old is dead after a shootout, Saturday morning.

Around 7, a neighbor called 911 to report someone was shooting into the air, near 11th and Sipple Avenue.  The first officer on the scene, Chad Stafford, confronted the suspect, and came under fire.  Stafford was hit in the head.  Chief Scott Scrimizzi says the bullet left a "crease" in the top of his head.

Stafford returned fire twice, hitting 18 year old Brandon Keeler, and killing him. Keeler had what Scrimizzi described as an assault rifle and a handgun.  It was not clear how many shots he fired.

Stafford was flown to University Medical Center, where he received stitches, and is expected to recover.
