(Cincinnati) -- Eastbound Central Parkway will be closed for the entire weekend, as contractors install curved rail, so the streetcar can turn onto southbound Walnut.

As of 6 o'clock, Thursday evening, eastbound Central Parkway will be closed at Vine.  There will be detours posted.  And the work should be completed by early Monday morning.

The streetcar project manager calls this weekend's work a major milestone.  John Deatrick says the first tracks are being put down in the Central Business District.

Deatrick says they still have some work to finish in Over the Rhine before they tackle the Central Business District line.  He says June 12th, they'll close Vine, so they can cross it at 12th Street.  That work will be done during the daytime, so as not to disrupt the entertainment district in the Gateway Corridor.

On June 23rd, tracks will be installed at 12th and Walnut, forcing the closure of that intersection.  That work will also be done during daylight hours, because it is a residential area.

On June 30th, 12th Street will be closed from Race to Vine, for track installation, and the construction of a "diamond".  That's where the tracks will cross themselves, with streetcars going west on 12th, and south on Race.  Deatrick says that intersection will be closed for approximately six weeks.

While it will be some time before track installation works its way down Walnut Street, toward the Banks, the street is still an obstacle course for drivers.  Deatrick says they do have a website which can help motorists: RoadmapCincy.com.  He says that lists all the streets with streetcar construction, and with all other closures for other projects Downtown.
