UPDATE: The Blue Wisp is running normally again. After posting a public notice out front on Tuesday afternoon (seen below), The Ohio Department of Taxation says the issue with sales tax has been taken care of.
The owner of the Wisp says it was a computer glitch that was quickly remedied, and the establishment is open for business as usual.
( Downtown ) - People looking to get bite to eat, a drink, or hear music at the Blue Wisp Jazz Club may be disappointed, Tuesday.
This notice was seen hanging in the front on Tuesday afternoon:
Gary Gudmundson with the Ohio Department of Taxation says business get notices like this posted when they fail to pay state sales taxes either twice for two months in a row, or three months in a 12-month period.
Gudmundson would not say how much money the Wisp owes, but he says they can start selling things as soon as they pay up.
It's not the first time the lounge-restaurant has had problems. In the last year, the building's owner, Towne Properties, threatened to close the establishment, but worked out a deal with the club's owners, and they hired a new manager. Recently though, a neighbor says employees' paychecks had been bouncing.
Before the Blue Wisp moved in early in 2012, the location at 7th and Race was the home of Bagpipes, before that, Sully's, and before that, Redfish, which closed in 2006.
