Couple Married For 71 Years Die Exactly 12 Hours Apart

A Georgia couple who had been married for 71 years both died on the same day, exactly 12 hours apart. Herbert Delaigle passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Friday (July 12) morning. Twelve hours later, his wife Frances Delaigle died at 2:20 p.m.

In 2018, while celebrating their 70th anniversary, the Delaigles spoke to WRDW about their life together. Herbert met the love of his life while she was working at a cafe in Waynesboro. After watching her go in and out of the restaurant, he finally found the courage to ask her out on a date.

"Frances worked at a little cafe we had in Waynesboro named White Way Cafe," Herbert said in the 2018 interview. "I kept seeing her going in and out, in and out, and I had my eyes set on her. And then I finally got up the nerve to ask her if she would go out with me sometime."

The two went to the movies together, and one year later Herbert asked Frances to marry him. Their wedding almost didn't happen because they were an hour late for the ceremony. Luckily, they managed to convince the preacher to go through with service, and it only cost them $5.

Despite their ups and downs over the decades of marriage, the couple managed to keep their sense of humor and showed their family the meaning of true love.

"It's amazing how they were together for 71 years, and now they are together in heaven," the Delaigle family said in a statement. "What an amazing love story that is."
