Help us repair & transform 70 homes and/or provide hospitality help for over a 1,000 national & local volunteers
SELF (Supports to Encourage Low-income Families) is the Community Action Agency for Butler County. One of our ten programs is called “Neighbors Who Care: Home Repairs”. The program offers free home repairs to low income families in Butler County who own their own home. Last year we worked on 144 homes, using mainly volunteers (1,523, giving us over 20,000 hours of their time!) Our clientele is mainly elderly, disabled, or veterans or some combination thereof. We do 20 or so wheelchair ramps and many steps, handrails, deck, grab bars, and other installations or repairs every year. Every home also gets a safety inspection with smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors where needed. We partner with various governmental agencies and other non-profits to raise money for the materials. One such agency is The Butler County Veterans Service Commission.
