War Cake

  • 1 pound raisins, cooked for 15 minutes in 2 cups water.  Then add 1 cup cold water.  Set aside.
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon each: cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 4 cups flour

 

Cream together the Crisco and sugar.  Combine dry ingredients.Stir raisin mixture into sugar mixture and stir in the dry mixrure.Pour into a greased 9”X13” baking pan.Bake in a 350 º F. oven for 45 minutes.
