Plant of the Week - January 12th 2019

This week’s Tree of the Week has been chosen by The ArborDoctor Ron Rothhass.  It’s one of those trees that are definitely planted today for the future generations, as it does take time to get of any major size.  BUT, once there, the tree can be amazing!  It’s Quercus lyrata, or commonly known as Overcup Oak.  $5’ high and wide, it tends to be more pyramidal when younger, becoming oval to rounded with age.  Bark is similar to white oak, and this native gets its name from the acorns that are nearly entirely covered by the cap.  Good choice, Doc!
