Today our pick is a very unusual maple, that most folks don’t recognize as a maple.This smaller ornamental tree is a bit slower growing, oval rounded, somewhat slender upright branching, growing to about 20-30’ high and 15-25 ‘ wide.Tough and hardy (although hates drought), it’s the perfect smaller tree for the patio, close to the home, specimen tree, etc.The fall color is spectacular (orange to red), and what’s really cool, is the exfoliating bark, which is a copper orange to cinnamon reddish brown.Does have insignificant yellowish flowers in spring along with the winged samaras, but fortunately, they don’t do very well germinating!Our pick….Acer griseum, or commonly known as Paperbark Maple.
