BLOC Ministries

Mission: Building relationships with our neighbors and sharing hope in brokenness.  BLOC was founded in 1998 to work with families in the Cleves & Price Hill area.

How we do it:

BLOC Afterschool Sites: Safe environments for students at risk of dropping out, addiction or other risks of urban streets. Homework help, drug prevention classes, art, recreational games & basketball, mentoring, small & large group events, basketball 3x3 tournaments & skills camps.  Four sites: East, West & Lower Price Hill & Village of Cleves

Urban Women’s Ministry: Resources primarily for women struggling with homelessness, addiction, sex trafficking.  Our all woman-staff challenges each woman to seek sustainable change and stability.  West & Lower Price Hill   

    + Weightless Anchor hospitality day shelters addressing practical needs and offering a nonjudgmental atmosphere and resources for change

    +  Redeemed Home residential program with jobs training, counseling, mentoring for women in recovery who we have mentored thru Weightless Anchor

    +  Girls Wanted teen girls program that offers crafts, snacks, mentoring, journaling and field trips to build young women with confidence and positive character traits that help them stay focused in school, life and off the streets

 

EPOH Home for students:  A home supporting teens whose families are in transition, allowing students to have a stable platform to stay in school, receive academic and life skills and develop positive personal habits and life skills.  E. Price Hill

BLOC Arts Building: Creative programming to build new skills and arts enrichment: dance, creative writing, ceramics, general art classes, ‘Girls Wanted’ self-esteem group, special events, and community usage for neighborhood events.  Lower Price Hill

BLOC Sports Performance Center:  An elite training center offering urban athletes referred by Hamilton Co. Juvenile Probation Dept. intensive fitness training, academic support, nutritional guidance and mentoring with a goal of students receiving an academic/athletic scholarship to college. Also offers fitness & mentoring 2x monthly to incarcerated youth.

Community Dinners & Emergency Food Pantries:  Fighting hunger while building community relationships with free, nutritious food.  Cleves & East Price Hill

BLOC Industries:   Mentoring and coaching urban men and women who want to work, but have significant barriers like a prison record or addiction that has hindered them in the past. Training includes general jobs trade specific skills, life skills, finances so they can gain a sustainable trade.  

   + BLOC Screen Print: on-the-job training for hard-to-employ men and women in screen print and business skills.  A social enterprise in Lower Price Hill      www.blocscreenprint.com

   + BLOC Coffee Company: our coffee shop providing a “third place” for community to gather, since 2007. Undergoing renovation, to reopen in East Price Hill near the Incline District
