The Hamilton County Board of Elections encourages all private citizens to vote and to become involved in the election process. One of the most rewarding ways to do this is to become a Precinct Election Official (PEO), formerly known as a Poll Worker. PEOs serve on the frontline of democracy. Your commitment to public service is a tribute to you and your communities. 

What are the responsibilities of a Precinct Election Official (PEO)

Precinct Election Officials conduct assigned duties at a polling site on Election Day. Duties can include issuing ballots to registered voters, explaining how to mark the ballot, monitoring the voting equipment, closing polls, and properly completing the required forms. 

What are the specific qualifications to be a PEO

To be a PEO a person must:

  • Be a registered and active voter in Hamilton County 
  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Be able to speak, read and write fluently in the English language
  • Be comfortable using electronic technology
  • Have strong clerical skills
  • Be able to solve problems
  • Be an effective communicator
  • NOT be a candidate for any office to be voted on at the polling place at that election
  • NOT be a convicted Felon

What are the hours of work for entire committment

Class: 3.5-4 hours

Monday night before election: 7:00-9:00pm 

Tuesday Election Day: 5:30am-8:30pm usually
