Android based scam can drain your bank account:
- They indicated that BRATA, a malware discovered in Brazil, had been found in Europe
- Hackers use BRATA to steal banking details from Android users
- Hackers send a text message with a link to a website. This is smishing
- The text appears to be from the bank and if the victim clicks the link, they will be prompted to download an app
- The site also tells the victim they will be contacted by the bank regarding the app
- The hackers call to attempt to convince the victim to download the malicious app which they can use to control your phone
- Some of the things BRATA can do include:
- Intercept text messages to get MFA one time pass codes (OTPs)
- Screen recording to capture passwords
- Uninstall other applications such as anti-virus
- So far, it's only been seen in Brazil, Italy, Lithuania and the Netherlands, but you should be vigilant and remain VERY skeptical of any call that asks you to download something
