Come See History Come to Life with The Ladies Living History!
Now is the time for the feminine side of history! The Ladies Living History Society is a group of women dedicated to authentically presenting the history of women through living history portrayals. Tonight’s presentation will be a Fashion Show representing clothing styles from the 1800’s through the 1860’s, from the inside out, layer to layer! They will be relating snippets from the history of those times as they show off their homemade costumes.
We’ve heard about the lives of Civil War area soldiers and the founding of villages and towns in the Ohio River valley by early property owners, who were mostly men. Of course, the vast majority of these men had women behind them who were running the households, raising the children, growing the food, and of course supporting their husbands so that the men could make those accomplishments. The women have stories of their own that they would like to relate. Join us tonight and learn about the Civil War through the eyes of the women.
Speaker’s Bio:
Ladies Living History Society of Greater Cincinnati was founded in 1993. There were no civilian historical reenactment groups in Cincinnati. Living history groups were confined to men who wanted to reenact battles from the Civil War. When the wives of the 6th Ohio regiment attended historical reenactments of battles and other Civil War events, they started to wonder what an 1860s female group would look like. That’s when ‘The Society’ was born. The women research the food, clothes, and pastimes of the 1860s, as well as historical figures from the era. They meet monthly to learn and talk about their research together. One of the goals of the society is to educate the public that women served Cincinnati in many ways during the Civil War.
