I can’t believe I’m doing this, but I have picked a newer Hydrangea for our pant of the week! There are so many new selections available its crazy! But this one, for some reason, caught my attention. It’s a Proven Winners quercifolia selection – Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Gatsby Pink’ – ‘Gatsby Pink’ Oakleaf Hydrangea.
Now I love the look of oakleaf hydrangeas anyway, no matter what the flower looks like. Oak-like leaves (dark green during the growing season and a mahogany -red in the fall), exfoliating bark on the stems, 6-8ft high and wide, and does well in shade and in sun. But check out those big summer flowers. They start out white, but quickly change to a rich pink! What a showstopper, especially in those shadier locations.
