This week’s pick is putting on quite a show right now…actually has been for a few weeks and will continue thru the summer season. It’s an herbaceous woody perennial, and did I mention the pollinators, especially the bees, are loving it? Did I mention its drought tolerant and low on the deer browse and pest list?Did I mention the tall airy spike like clusters of lavender blue flowers all standing above and over the foliage like clouds? Did I mention there are selections that stay dwarf (18”) and some that grow up to 3-4’ feet tall? I did mention full sun to part sun, right? In ground, masses, specimen, or in containers. And if you want them to stay a bit shorter and fuller just cut them back about 1/3 to ½ late May…mentioned that, right? What else do I need to mention? Hm-m-m-m-m…. OH YEAH! Our plant pick this week is Perovskia atriplicifolia, or commonly known as ‘Russian Sage’. And by the way, I did want to mention that it is not sage, nor is it native to Russia! Its actually native to central Asia.Look for a plethora of selections available at your local garden stores such as Denim n’ lace, Little Spire, Blue Spritzer, Blue Spire, Lacey Blue, and I love this one’s name, Blue Jean Baby.
