CEOs You Should Know Featuring Matt Hittinger of IEC

Matt Hittinger is the Executive Director for Independent Electrical Contractors of Greater Cincinnati (IEC). IEC connects people and companies to succeed through education, sharing best practices and promoting safe, professional work methods throughout the electrical industry. The IEC chapter has over 50 Electrical contractor members who employ over 1,500 electricians in the Tri-state area. The chapter is currently training more than 460 students in a 4-year “earn while you learn” electrical apprenticeship program and with an extremely high demand for qualified electricians they expect this number to continue increasing year over year.

Growing up on the West side of Cincinnati, Matt has spent his entire life around and exposed to the electrical construction field. As a third generation electrician, he has over 20 years of experience in the field of electrical construction, management and operations. He is also an Army Veteran, having served 13 years in the Reserves and one 12-month combat tour in Iraq. After working on the contracting side of the industry Matt took the role of Executive Director for the IEC chapter in 2019. As a committed leader and advocate for the advancement of the merit shop electrical industry and graduate of the 4-year program himself, Matt has an absolute passion and desire for the success and continued growth of IEC.

In addition to leading the Cincinnati chapter, Matt serves on several IEC National Committees including:

• Codes and Standards

• Executive Directors Leadership Council

• IEC National President’s Advisory Council

• Emerging Leaders

Matt also serves as a board member for the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council which provides guidance and makes recommendations regarding state-level policies and regulations. He is also a member of the NFPA - National Electrical Code Committee serving as an alternate on Code-Making Panel No. 1.

Matt is a husband and father of three girls. He loves spending time with his family, their dog Scout and anything outdoors especially hiking, hunting, snow skiing and even cutting grass! The family is active in their Church and community where they enjoy serving many different volunteer/outreach efforts and non-profits.
